Submissions Policy & Process
At Black Mill Publishing, we are dedicated to curating a catalog of compelling, thought-provoking works that push boundaries and engage readers. We welcome submissions from both emerging and established authors across a range of genres, with a particular focus on literary fiction, narrative nonfiction, and innovative scientific writing. We seek manuscripts that demonstrate originality, depth, and a distinctive voice.
We currently accept unsolicited submissions via email. Authors should submit a query letter along with a detailed synopsis and the first three chapters (or approximately 10,000 words) of their manuscript. If submitting nonfiction, please include a proposal outlining the book’s premise, target audience, and market potential. Submissions must be in 12-point Times New Roman, double-spaced, and formatted as a PDF or Word document.
Due to the high volume of submissions, we aim to respond within 8–12 weeks. If we are interested in moving forward, we may request a full manuscript for further review. While we strive to provide thoughtful feedback, we regret that we cannot respond to every submission individually. If you do not receive a response within this timeframe, you may assume that we are unable to pursue your project at this time.
For authors represented by literary agents, submissions should be sent directly to our acquisitions editor with a brief overview of the project. Please note that we do not currently accept poetry, short story collections, or previously self-published works unless invited.
All submissions should be sent to submissions@blackmillpublishing.com with the subject line: "Submission: [Book Title] – [Author Name]." We look forward to discovering bold new voices and innovative perspectives that align with our publishing vision.
